Meet the team

Panagiotis Krokidas is a physicist, with extensive experience in computational materials chemistry, with a focus on the design of novel nanoporous materials for gas storage and separation applications. He works as a researcher in NCSR “Demokritos”, in the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications (IIT), in the interface of AI and Physical Sciences.

George Giannakopoulos has more than 15 years of experience in a wide area of AI applications, such as Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Data Mining and Biomedical Informatics. He works as a researcher in IIT (NCSR “Demokritos”) and he is the co-founder and CEO of SciFY.

In 2020, Panagiotis was awarded the Marie-Curie postdoc fellowship for his project, SmartDeZIgn, focusing on AI-powered ZIF design for CO2 reduction. NCSR “Demokritos” became his host institution, where he met George, an AI expert and his supervisor. Throughout the project, George mentored Panagiotis on AI’s potential in the Physical Sciences. Their friendship grew, and when SmartDeZIgn ended, George invited Panagiotis to form a team to explore AI and physical sciences.

Make-a-ZIF emerged from their shared vision to simplify gas separation research.
